Welcome and thank you for stopping by my blog! My name is Monique (or Moki if you prefer). I am a creative art photographer serving Albuquerque, New Mexico and surrounding areas. My photography is not going to look like other photographers work. That is because I offer a finely tuned, uniquely designed, client inspired portrait experience. I believe portraits should be more than just a picture of your face, they should be a story about who you are. I love cold weather. I prefer layers. I like the way warm mugs of cocoa feel in my hand. I pile the blankets on at night after I’ve turned the thermostat down.I’d make soup every night if my family would let me. I was so thankful for the 2 snow days we got this week. Now I am ready for them to go back to school.
No, this wont be a “mommy post.” I wont cry, or tell you how I remember when… But here it is for what it is. My daughter is old enough to go to the Homecoming dance! What it does make me think about is how different we are.
1. I never would have fathomed that I could go to homecoming by myself and meet my friends there… I would have rather died.
2. She wore a beautiful vintage inspired piece we picked up for next to nothing. When I finally did go to a school dance my mom made me something inspired by a dress Natalie Merchant wore that I had fallen in love with and that my mom hinted would not be flattering on me… it wasn’t.
3. She gets up super duper early for a church class (starts at 5:30 am) so she can go to Student Senate at 6:30 am! I sleep til lunch time… my sleep schedule is way off.

So you’re probably familiar with one of my fabulous friends, Ms. Tammy Staley. (You know, Albuquerque’s best newborn photographer!) She invited me along on yet another New Mexico day trip to scout out fabulous locations for our clients’ photo sessions. And we LOVED LOVED LOVED this one!
Next time I go out, I think I’ll bring a family dressed in 1920′s or 1930′s fashions, maybe do an engagement session with just the right couple (ya know, one of those young, fun, creative types), maybe a little boy and his new puppy. So worth the drive!
(I am so blessed to have my daughter model for me whenever I have a creative whim. I wouldn’t be half the artist I am if I didn’t have such a cooperative gal in front of my camera.)
