Our bed was extremely comfortable this morning. My feather pillow had molded perfectly to the contours of my face. I had wrapped one leg outside the comforter and cuddled up next to my hub’s warm back. I closed my eyes and attempted to drift back to the land of dreams. A raspy voice broke through the silence,
“Mom! We missed the bus!”
It was true… the alarm clocks had been silenced by snooze buttons. The sun was prohibited from entering the room through our dark curtains. Somehow the children had slept a full 10 hours. With my schedule already full, I knew the 45 minutes we had used up in sleep would now cost so much more than that in the lucid day. Not only would the kiddos be taking their time because there was no bus to catch, but I would have to make them breakfast (they prefer to eat at school) and I would have to get dressed and presentable immediately to drive them to school! (Thank heavens I had showered last night and put my hair up properly to avoid the strung-out-hippie-mamma-with-a-hangover-white-trash look!)
It is taking every bit of patience and dedication I have to sit and write this post. Essentially I am wasting precious time to share this with you but as I drizzled honey on the preschooler’s toast and watched her sipping milk from her polk-a-dot mug, I knew my busy schedule was making me miss so much that truly and simply is important. So I stopped and took some pictures. Truth be told, she hammed it up for the camera, but I was capturing the same demeanor and refreshing excitement for the day I had seen minutes before. There is no guarantee that I will have other moments like this. In fact, there is no guarantee I will REMEMBER these moments with or without pictures, but when it is quiet at night and I think about my day, my children, or my life, I am astonished at how much time has passed and how little I can recall about each of their lives.

Take some time to document your days this year. Here are some ideas for pictures you should take:
-that funny mismatched outfit
-when they are rocking out when they think nobody is watching
-playing with their toys
-helping around the house
-eating a meal
-talking to your pets
-throwing a fit
-sleeping
-digging in the dirt
-reading a book
-playing with friends or siblings
-being mischievous (before you scold them)
-drawing or painting
-putting on their shoes
-picking their nose… yes, I said it
-shopping for groceries
-riding a bike
-playing in the bathroom
-devouring a dessert
-just chillin’
